Scholarships and Exchange Programmes

The Government of Serbia provides many scholarships and exchange programmes for international students to study in Serbia. Scholarships are offered for undergraduate, master and doctoral studies at higher education institutions in Serbia

World in Serbia

The Government of the Republic of Serbia offers “World in Serbia” scholarship for pupils coming from the Non-Aligned Movement countries to study at the University of Belgrade in Serbia. 

Study level: All levels of studies, including Serbian language preparatory course

Serbia for Serbs from the Region

The Government of the Republic of Serbia has a project “Serbia for Serbs from the Region” that offers scholarships for pupils of Serbian citizenship who live in the Western Balkan region.

Eligible country students: Croatia, Albania, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Montenegro, Romania,  

Eligibility Criteria:
Following criteria must be fulfilled in order to get this scholarship:
  • Candidates must belong to the Serbian national minority, and have the citizenship of one of the countries in the region; 
  • For bachelor degree programmes: Candidates age must be below 21 year and he/she must have an excellent record in a secondary school;
  • For master’s degree programme: Candidates age must be below 25 years and must have a GPA of 8.50
  • For doctorate/PhD studies: Candidates age must be below 35 years and must have a master’s degree with 300 ECTS points
  • Candidates must have knowledge of Serbian or English language
Scholarship benefits: Monthly stipend of 15,000.00 RSD, school fees; free Serbian language preparation course; accommodation, food and medical care fees; free recognition of educational credentials-school as well as university level; and free residence visa.

Applying Ways and Means: Candidates can apply for this scholarship through the Serbian diplomatic mission in their place of residence. Submit all the required documents to the Serbian embassy or consulate in your country of residence. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia will select the candidates for scholarship on the basis of the Council for Serbs of the region recommendation. 

Erasmus Mundus Programme

The Erasmus Mundus programme is a mobility  and academic cooperation programme in the higher education sector. 

Fields of study: Master and joint doctorate

Types of scholarships: Erasmus Mundus offers 2 types of scholarships: Action 1 for Master and Joint doctorates and Action 2-Erasmus Mundus partnerships

Action 1 (Action 1A- Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses and Action 1B-Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates Courses)

These are the joint study programmes, and students who are enrolled in these programmes are allowed to study a semester at the higher education institution which is a member of the programme. Upon successful completion of the programme, a joint degree from the respective higher education institution is awarded.

Eligible country citizens: Third-country citizens and EU citizens

Application deadlines: November to December 

ACTION 2-Erasmus Mundus Partnership Programme

The Erasmus Mundus partnership programme enables pupils from partner EU universities to come to study at partner higher education institution in Serbia. 

Study levels: All levels of study- Bachelor, Master and Doctorate

EM partnership programme available to: Students and university staff at the partner universities

Bilateral Exchanges

The universities in Serbia have bilateral cooperation and agreements with the universities from other countries. As a result of which, exchange programmes are organised. Thus, international pupils are allowed to come to Serbia to study as exchange students and vice-versa.

CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies)

CEEPUS is an academic exchange programme that began in 1993. This programme is for pupils and professors from Central and Eastern Europe.

Eligible member countries: Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia.

Field of study: joint degrees, mainly joint doctoral programmes

Scholarship benefits: Covers food, accommodation, financial funds and tuition fee exemption. 

Applying ways and means: Students can apply for the CEEPUS scholarship online.
